Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha on Friday said a portion of the pending subsidy had already been released by the Centre to Zuari Agro Chemicals Limited (ZACL) and was confident that the company would resume operations soon.
ZACL, one of the oldest and biggest factories in the State, has totally shut down production and operations since the last one month, causing uncertainty and anxious moments to hundreds of permanent and contract employees.
The shutdown had been attributed to poor sales, high raw material costs, subsidy delay, dollar price rise and tightened bank loans.
Speaking to reporters alongside a joint meeting with Dy Collector Paresh Faldesai and DBL officials at the municipal building in Vasco, Saldanha said Chief Minister Pramod Sawant had expressed concerns about the prevailing situation at Zuari Agro Chemicals Limited and had promised all assistance to the company.
“Besides increased raw material prices and poor sale of products, one of the major reasons affecting ZACL was the release of their pending subsidies,” said Saldanha.
“I am very happy to say that the chief minister has already got some things in order and ZACL has received a part of its pending subsidy from the Centre.”
“When I spoke to some ZACL representatives, they said the situation was well under control and everything is being done so that the company resumes operations, so that no one is jobless. I have full faith that our CM will offer all the required assistance,” added Saldanha.
