Concerned over the rising saline water levels in their area, locals of Panch Manxer in Carambolim met Cumbarjua MLA Pandurang Madkaikar and appealed to him to take up the issue of rebuilding the Manxer to Petter bundh before the onset of monsoons.
In this connection, the locals accompanied by Carambolim Sarpanch Uttam Murgaonkar met Madkaikar at his bungalow on Thursday and apprised him of the danger faced by the locals if the bundh is not rebuild at the earliest.
“We want the bundh to be built before the rains, otherwise our houses will once again get flooded with saline water,” said a local, Fatima Rodrigues.
Giving a patient hearing to the aggrieved locals, MLA Madkaikar said he is following up the issue with WRD officials and the file is in the process of getting tendered.
“After that, the file will go for financial clearance and only then the work on the bundh will be taken up,” Madkaikar informed the locals and assured that he will try his best to get the work done before monsoons.
The locals also apprised Madkaikar that the bundh has breached at many places, due to which the saline water is gushing with speed.
It may be recalled that in October 2019, many houses in Panch Manxer got flooded with saline water as the water level rose and entered the houses after breaching the bundh.
Since then, the locals have been running from pillar to post to ensure that the work on the Manxer to Petter bundh is executed.
Then North Goa collector R Menaka had also visited the area along with other officials, with the locals highlighting that the height of the bundh needs to be raised to stop saline water from entering inland.
