President of Conference of Catholic Bishops of India (CCBI) and Archbishop of Goa and Daman Cardinal Filipe Neri Ferrão has appealed for special prayers for the successful surgery, speedy recovery and good health of Pope Leo XIV.

In a letter, Cardinal Ferrão has requested archbishops, bishops, priests, deacons, religious, catechists and lay faithful of the Latin Catholic Church in India to unite in prayer for Holy Father, Pope Leo XIV, who is scheduled to undergo surgery at the Agostino Gemelli Polyclinic Hospital in Rome following the detection of a small, localised nodule in his lung during recent medical examinations.

“At this time, let us express our closeness to the Holy Father through our prayers and spiritual solidarity. I kindly request that special prayers for his successful surgery, speedy recovery, good health and renewed strength be offered in our dioceses, parishes, religious communities and institutions.”

Cardinal Ferrão has also recommended the inclusion of special intercessions for the Holy Father during the celebration of the Holy Mass and in the Prayer of the Faithful.

“As we observe the Month of the Holy Rosary, let us remember Pope Leo XIV in our daily personal and community prayers, especially through the recitation of the Holy Rosary. May the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of the Church, lovingly intercede for him and accompany him through this time of treatment and recovery.”

“May the Lord grant the Holy Father healing, peace and strength and sustain him in his ministry of shepherding the universal Church. Let our united prayers be a sincere expression of our filial love, ecclesial communion and spiritual closeness to the Successor of Peter,” Cardinal Ferrão added.
