Sixty dedicated teachers representing various special schools and institutions with resource rooms across the region participated in a training session focused on early intervention for deafblindness.
The session was conducted by Caritas Goa, in collaboration with Sense International India and supported by Rupin Nelumbo Stiftung on June 21.
The training session was facilitated by Priya Ann Aranjo, Vice Principal of the Helen Keller Institute for Deaf and Deafblind.
This specialised initiative aimed to empower educators from schools equipped with resource rooms to effectively meet the diverse needs of students with deafblindness and multiple disabilities. The event proved instrumental in equipping educators with essential skills and strategies crucial for the holistic development of students with sensory impairments.
The training session emphasised proactive strategies for early identification and intervention, crucial for fostering key developmental milestones in children with sensory impairments.
Educators were equipped with advanced techniques for comprehensive and individualised assessment, ensuring that educational plans were meticulously tailored to meet the unique learning requirements of each student.
Practical guidelines were provided on creating and implementing IFSPs, emphasising collaboration with families to create personalised support plans that enhance the child’s educational journey.
Participants explored a variety of effective instructional approaches tailored to optimise learning outcomes and skill development in students with deafblindness. These strategies promote inclusive and accessible education practices.
Insights and strategies were shared to prepare educators and students with deafblindness for successful integration into mainstream educational environments. The focus was on fostering a supportive and inclusive school culture that promotes the academic and social growth of all students.
