Agitated residents of Olvaddo-Carmona have knocked the doors of the village panchayat and other authorities to stop music planned to be played at the Verda resort on New Year's eve after 10 pm.
They have warned that the Carmona panchayat and other authorities will be solely held responsible in the event any untoward incident arises out of the permission granted to the resort to play music late night in the thickly populated residential locality.
After a group of Olvaddo residents called on
the Carmona Sarpanch Winston Dias with a plea to petition the authorities to cancel the permission issued to Verda to play music on New year's eve, the Sarpanch immediately dashed off a letter to the Colva police station.
He has asked the police to look into the matter and take appropriate action since the area in question is a residential locality where playing music will disturb the residents of the area. "I spoke to both the Colva PI Filomena Costa and Deputy Collector Paresh Faldesai to take action as per the complaints of the residents," Winston told

A resident of Olvaddo Brian Fernandes informed that the residents had lodged a complaint on December 27 with the village panchayat, Colva police, District Collector and the Salcete BDO objecting to the planned playing of music on New Year's eve at the Verda resort since it will disturb the residents staying in the thickly populated residential area. "We had come today to find out from the Sarpanch whether the permission granted for Verda stands revoked or not. It's now three days since the residents had lodged a complaint, but the permission has not been revoked till date," Brian said, adding that the Sarpanch has now promised to send a letter to the Colva police and other authorities to take appropriate action in the complaint received from the residents.
Succoro Miranda said the Sarpanch has told the residents that he would talk to the Colva police station in-charge, adding "the panchayat and other authorities will be responsible if any untoward incident takes place because the residents had lodged the complaint on December 27."
The residents of Olvaddo had been waging a battle against the Verda resort, demanding its closure on grounds that the residential building is being used for commercial use in a residential locality.
Though the present panchayat has not renewed the license issued to the resort by the previous body, the management has filed an appeal petition, which is
presently pending with the Additional Director of Panchayats, South.
