Carmona Sarpanch Allwyn Jorge was on Friday voted out of office in the no-confidence motion.
Jorge, who had joined the Trinamool Congress Party (TMC) a couple of months ago and had even kicked off his campaign for the Benaulim Assembly constituency, could not survive the motion as it was carried by 4-1 votes. Two members remained absent.
Benaulim MLA Churchill Alemao’s entry into the TMC earlier this week in the presence of party supremo Mamata Banerjee at the Dando grounds, Benaulim could also not save Jorge from being voted out of office.
For, it is a sheer coincidence that most of the signatories to the no-confidence motion are close supporters of the Benaulim MLA. Sources in the know informed that at least one or two of the signatories to the no-confidence motion had come to meet the MLA after they succeeded in dislodging Jorge from office. The Benaulim MLA, however, had told the media that he is no way connected with the no-confidence tabled against the Carmona sarpanch.
While the four signatories to the motion have managed to vote out the sarpanch, they, however, are yet to unveil the name of the candidate for the vacant post.
The no-confidence motion was tabled by panch members Xavier Abrao Fernandes, Sandra John Fernandes, Joao Francisco Da Costa and Savita Cristeo Mascarenhas for what they called as the non-cooperative attitude of the sarpanch and for not taking the members into confidence while deciding on panchayat affairs.
