MARGAO
The Mahila wing of the Congress party on Friday took out a candle light procession in the city here to protest against the rising crimes against women during the BJP regime.
Led by Mahila Congress State President, Beena Naik, the women later took out a procession around the Margao Municipal garden.
Briefing the media, Beena Naik said women in Goa are no longer safe as the BJP regime has failed to provide safety and security for women and girls. “The parents are worried over the safe return from colleges. Women working in offices are also not safe. This is because the BJP government had defaulted in providing safety and security for our women,” she said.
Touching on the sex scandal that hit the BJP government forcing Minister Milind Naik to quit the Cabinet, Beena said the Congress had set 15-day deadline for the government to act against the Minister, but in vain. “The Congress party was left with no option than to name the Minister,” she said, demanding to know why the BJP did not act against the Minister suo moto and acted only when the Congress went public with the name.
