Carmona VP directs all businesses to obtain licences

MARGAO
Close on the heels of Carmona village taking action against a migrant fruit and vegetable vendor in D’Mello ward for running an illegal kiosk, it has now issued a public notice firmly declaring that the Panchayati Raj Act mandates all commercial establishments to obtain license from the local body.

Sarpanch Allwyn Jorge said that as per Section 70 and Section 71 of the Goa Panchayati Raj Act, all commercials establishments including shops, restaurants, eateries, coffee houses, sweetmeat marts or pastry shops, bakeries, movable carts, food and vegetable stalls, liquor stores, guest houses and hotels, are required to have a valid license issued by the panchayat.

“As such, all these businesses are reminded and advised to apply and obtain a valid license to operate under the jurisdiction of VP Carmona by submitting the application with all supporting documents before March 31, 2021,” the Sarpanch asserted.

Speaking to the media, the Sarpanch reiterated that any commercial activity if it does not have the panchayat license will be considered as illegal and stern action will be taken including sealing off the premises with the help of the Collector, Excise and FSSAI.

“There are many who operate without any license. Some in the past were paying trade tax to the panchayat which is in fact illegal as there is no provision to collect any trade tax. From this financial year, all units were supposed to apply for license,” he added.
