The sarpanch of the village panchayat of Carmona along with the Village Development Committee convenor and members finally submitted their Gram Panchayat Development Plan to the Salcete BDO on Wednesday.
Sarpanch Allwyn Jorge later told the media that the GPDP was prepared after due consultations and after receiving feedback from villagers. He said a vigorous three-day situation analysis and compiling of village data through an in-depth survey was carried out before finalizing the plan.
Although Carmona is the last village to submit their GPDP plan, the Sarpanch informed that it was prepared in a record time of just 20 days.
Projects will be initially finalized as prioritised by the gram sabha and will be executed with funds under the 14th Finance Commission.
The sarpanch pointed out that the village GPDP will be like a Charter of Demands for any future Assembly or Lok Sabha elections. “Funds under 14th Finance Commission will be equally distributed for projects in all the seven wards without any discrimination”, Allwyn said.
Incidentally, the sarpanch said that the village has been suffering as development proposals mooted by the panchayat met a dead end under the BJP regime.
Meanwhile, the sarpanch informed that the Carmona beach issue will be put up on the main agenda at the April ordinary gram sabha for resolution and to find a
clear-cut solution.
