The Panaji Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) has transferred the case filed by the Congress party alleging that a forged resolution of the Congress legislature party was submitted as proof of a party resolution to ‘merge’ with the BJP to a special court that deals with cases of MLAs and MPs, state party president Girish Chodankar informed.
A day after the Speaker dismissed his petitions for the disqualification of 10 former Congress MLAs who ‘defected’ to the BJP, the Goa Congress Chief Girish Chodankar filed a complaint with the police alleging that the MLAs had produced forged documents before the Speaker to defend themselves against disqualification.
In his complaint, Chodankar has said that the MLAs produced what was purported to be a resolution of the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee agreeing to merge with the BJP, which he said was completely fabricated, as no such resolution was taken.
However, since the Panaji police failed to take cognizance and register the case, the party approached the JMFC at Panaji seeking a direction to the police to register and probe the case.
“The aforesaid document is created illegally using counterfeit letterhead and counterfeit seal of the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee,” Chodankar had said in his complaint.
“Firstly, no such meeting of the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee was called for and/or took place on 10.07.2019 and therefore the question of passing of any resolution as claimed in the said documents does not even arise. Further, no record of such a meeting is to be found in the register books maintained by the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee to record the proceedings of the meetings of the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee.
As per the minutes book there is record of meeting of office bearers of Pradesh Congress committee held on 29.05.2019 and 24.07.2019 and there is no other meeting in-between the said meetings and certainly not of any meeting on 10.07.2019,” Chodankar said.
