Panaji Police on Wednesday registered a complaint against P B Banargy, Satish Kumar Agarwal, Raju Verma and Deepak Gosavi under Sections 419 and 420 read with 34 of IPC for cheating a BSNL staff member of Rs 2.53 lakh in November 2015.
In his complaint, Shamad Mirkha Mahajjan, a BSNL staff member residing at Altinho, Panaji stated that on November 20, 2015 at Panaji, the four accused contacted him while claiming to be from the consumer forum.
Referring to a complaint Mahajjan had lodged with an online consumer forum, they told him that in order to resolve the grievance, he must pay Rs 1.37 lakh.
Previously, Mahajajn had lodged a complaint on an online consumer forum regarding non-receipt of the maturity amount of Rs 11.46 lakh, for which he had paid amount to the tune of Rs 81,000 and Rs 35,000 premium to a company called Wealth Club.
The complainant was assured that upon payment of Rs 1.37 lakh, he will receive the total maturity amount of Rs 11 lakh.
It is not known how the accused accessed the details of the complainant’s grievance from the online portal.
Thereafter, with dishonest intention, Verma collected the cash amount from the complainant and issued him a receipt of ‘Bima Lokpal Karyalai’ thereby cheating him.
PSI Rajaram is investigating the case further.
