This may only raise hopes that the positivity rate may have come down a bit going by the admissions and vacant beds in the hospital, but officials warn that it’s too early to comment on the Covid situation.
Perhaps for the first time in recent days, a number of bed were found vacant at the Covid hospitals in Margao, both at the ESI hospital and the South Goa district hospital.
At the ESI hospital, which till recently struggled to accommodate the rising number of Covid patients, which had even prompted Medical Superintendent, Dr Vishwajit Faldesai to place an extra bed to increase the bed strength to 235, around 25 beds were found vacant in the hospital on Monday.
Doctors manning the ESI hospital do not rule out the possibility of the vacant beds occupied by the patients later tonight. Officials, however, said that this was not the situation just last week, when the hospital was occupied to its full capacity, leaving patients to knock the doors of other hospitals, including private hospitals.
“We do not want to interpret the current situation, whether there’s reduction of positivity rate or not. The fact, however, remains that beds are available in the hospital for patients”, remarked a senior official.
Statistics show that the total number of Covid patients admitted at the ESI hospital on Monday was put at 210. There were 19 new admissions, while the hospital discharged around 36 patients from the hospital.
Of the 210 patients, around 153 patients are on oxygen while another 36 patients are being administered Remdesvir treatment,.
Though official statistics at the South Goa district hospital were not available, sources said the situation in the hospital is now manageable with scope to provide a bed to the patients knocking at the doors.

Doctors, however, again cautioned that it’s too early to comment on the situation, saying that Tuesday and Wednesday may shed light on the actual situation on the assumption that patients may visit the casualty during these two days after staying indoors in view of the Cyclonic weather conditions in the last three days.
