Unknown culprits targeted the Old Market Chapel on Saturday night, decamping with cash from the donation box.
While the Chapel has been the target of miscreants in the past, this time the burglars effected entry into the chapel by cutting open door latch before tampering with the donation box.
Last time round, the Fatorda police had nabbed one person, a rag picker. The managing committee of the Chapel has lodged a complaint with the Fatorda police.
Even as the police has started investigations into the burglary, Margao Municipal ward Councilor Vitorino Tavares has urged the police to intensify night patrolling around the Old market area. He pointed out that the area around the Chapel is being frequented by people till late night. “The police should intensify night patrolling to keep the burglars at bay”, he demanded.
