PANAJI
The Corporation of the City of Panaji and six major cities urban bodies will soon get roofs with solar energy generation facilities which will be connected to the power grid.
The government has come with the scheme in the midst of stiff opposition to the Tamnar transmission and allegations why solar power is not generated.
Bicholim, Valpoi, Sanguem, Quepem, Mapusa and Cuncolim municipalities are in the first list to get these facilities.
Under the scheme, 100 per cent financial assistance will be provided to municipal bodies. This cost will include cost of transportation and installation as well as an annual maintenance contract for five years.
Recently, Goa Energy Development Agency (GEDA) has floated tender for design, supply, installation, testing, commissioning of aggregate capacity 206.88kWp grid-connected solar rooftop power plants including Operation and Maintenance for five years at six municipality buildings across Goa as well as at the CCP building.
Government had earlier floated a tender in December for such solar rooftops to various households in Goa.
The cabinet earlier in June 2020 had also decided to implement the rural village electrification scheme for households to help houses in Sanguem, Quepem, Sattari and Canacona.
