PANAJI
The Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) has ordered Bicholim Urban Co-operative Bank to demolish within 28 days the toilet on the ground floor and also a generator mezzanine constructed on the sixth floor of Lawande Sarmalkar Bhavan at Dada Vaidya Road, Panaji. The CCP observed that the structures were built without prior permission of the Corporation.
Bicholim Urban Co-operative Bank owns two shops in Sarmalkar Bhavan. However, the bank has installed a generator on the 6th floor of the building and constructed a toilet on the ground floor encroaching some part of the property.
After a citizen Sanjai Sarmalkar complained about it to the CCP it was found that the constructions were done without prior permission of the Corporation following which CCP commissioner Sanjith Rodrigues ordered the demolition of the structures.
Sarmalkar has also complained to the Fire Department about the illegal and dangerously installed generator on the open terrace of the building. The Fire Department then inspected the building for structural safety. During the inspection it was found that the generator installed on the open terrace poses a grave danger to the safety of the building.
