CCP to send eviction notices to market shop occupants

PANAJI
With the deadline of July 27 having passed, the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) will now send eviction notices to all 456 shop occupants at the Panaji market.

"Around 15 shop occupants have submitted their documents to the CCP and in the next 15 days, 40 more shop occupants are expected to submit their documents,” said Panaji Market Committee Chairman Pramay Mainkar while speaking to The Goan.

CCP has issued a public notice to shop occupants to submit claims to sign the leave and license Agreement with the CCP.

However, only 15 of the 456 shop occupants have responded so far.

"Following procedures, the CCP will now send an eviction notice to all 456 shop occupants under the Public Premises Act. Once the claims of occupants are scrutinised and leave and license agreement is signed, the eviction notices to those occupants will be withdrawn,” said Mainkar.

The Panaji Market Tenant Association had remained adamant and has refused to sign the leave and license agreement.

However, some shop occupants at the CCP panaji market have now shown willingness to sign the leave and license agreement but a majority of them are still reluctant to do so.

"We will not comment on the issue and we will come out with an official statement,” said Rajendra Dhamaskar, president of Panaji Market Tenant Association, when contacted by The Goan.
