“We have to pay the balance amount as the contractor has provided us the service,”
said Naik.
Naik was responding to queries raised by The Goan of erecting a few unsteady watch towers and installation of CCTV cameras for the Vasco Carnival float parade at the
last minute.
“We were supposed to install CCTV cameras from the municipality administrative section, but we didn’t have the technicians, due to which we had to hire a contractor,”
said Naik.
When it was brought to her notice that CCTV cameras were not functioning till 6.45 pm during the float parade, Naik said she would direct the contractor to provide the footage of the entire carnival float parade and accordingly release the balance amount.
When told further that the watch towers were erected just before the carnival float parade was flagged off, and the police personnel refused to man the towers as they were not steady, Naik declined to comment.
It may be recalled that Naik had said that the watch towers would be erected along the Swantantra Path road and CCTV cameras would be installed. However, only four watch towers were erected and three CCTV cameras were installed from the King Momo’s stage to the road junction near Canara Bank Vasco.
