MARGAO
The plaster of a ceiling of the office of the Administrator of Comunidades, South Goa housed in the old South Goa Collectorate building, came crashing down during office hours on Monday.
However, no one was injured in the incident, with sources saying a portion of the roof ceiling had collapsed some time back.
Incidentally, the office of the South Goa Administrator of Comunidades was temporarily shifted to the Old Collectorate building near the Margao Municipal building around half a decade ago since the imposing Comunidade building was plagued by water seepage problems during monsoons.
While the office of the Comunidade Administrator has since been functioning from the old Collectorate building, the proposal to refurbish and renovate the old building has gone abegging for reasons best known to the government.
For, while the PWD had floated a tender to undertake the repairs and renovation of the South Goa Administrator of Comunidades building around two years ago, work on the project is yet to start till date.
A communidade staffer remarked: “We were shifted to the Old Collectorate building after the imposing Comunidade building was not safe for the employees and visitors. The collapse of the concrete plaster of the ceiling roof at the Old Collectorate has thrown up the question of safety”, the staffer added.
