Celerity fitness trainer Gaurav Bidre, charged with killing assistant professor Gauri Achari in June 2022, has moved the High Court of Bombay at Goa seeking bail.
The accused has been lodged in the Colvale Central Jail since his arrest on June 24, 2022, and is facing trial for the offense. The Bench has issued a notice to the Goa Police seeking a reply, while adjourning the matter for hearing on October 16.
The accused faced rejections from the trial court, prompting him to approach the higher court for bail.
The Old Goa police, in its charge sheet before the District Court on September 20, 2022, charged him under sections 302 for murder, 365 (kidnapping or abduction of a person with the intent to be kept secretly and wrongfully confined), 342 (wrongful confinement), and 201 (destruction of evidence) of the Indian Penal Code.
Bidre had trained the Goa Police’s Anti-Terrorist Squad barely around a month and a half before he committed the crime. As per the police case, the accused strangulated Achari in her car parked in her residential complex in Corlim on June 23, 2022 after which he dumped her body in a jungle in Old Goa. The body was recovered during a search when the victim's mother lodged a missing person’s complaint with the Old Goa police.
