Chairperson blames GSUDA, WRD

Mapusa Municipal Council Chairperson Rohan Kavlekar refused to take the onus of the pain from the first rains, but chose to blame Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA) and Water Resources Department (WRD) for the flooding in the market and other parts of Mapusa.

MAPUSA:
“The WRD while undertaking the work of the main nullah on the outskirts of the town, from Maruti Temple to Bodgewar Temple, has left the work incomplete at several places. This has affected the flow of rainwater.” Similarly, the chairperson said the reason for water ingress in the the shop of Daud Electricals and other establishments along the line was because of the incomplete GSUDA work.
The chairperson was, however, candid enough to admit that the sudden rains had caught him and the civic body unawares.
“We expected monsoon would hit the State around June 6.”
The chairperson further said that four to five JCBs and 50-odd civic workers were engaged throughout the day to alleviate the problems created by the sudden water surge due to rains.

Many parts of the commercial capital were inundated with rain water following heavy pre-monsoon showers on Wednesday, exposing the shoddy pre-monsoon works of the authorities concerned, even as TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai launched de-silting works of major nullahs in his Fatorda constituency.
