This is the second cross to be targeted in the village within a fortnight, the last incident being reported along the Chandor-Assolda village border.
The incident came to light on Sunday morning when a member of the Alma Khuris Committee member, Tadeu, noticed that the miscreants have vandalized the Holy Cross under the cover of darkness. As news spread in the village over the desecration of the Alma Khuris, locals residents assembled at the spot to take stock of the situation.
Local Cuncolim MLA Clafacio Dias, who rushed to Chandor upon hearing the shocking news, condemned the incident, saying that the vandalism is the handiwork of miscreants who are trying to foment trouble in the village. He appealed to the people of Chandor to maintain peace even as he appealed to the police force to intensify patrolling in the village to reign in on the miscreants. “This is the second incident within a fortnight wherein the miscreants have vandalized a cross. I have asked the Maina Curtorim Police to deploy additional policemen in the village to intensify patrolling,” Clafacio said.
