Candolim Veterans blank Quepem 2-0

MARGAO

Candolim Veterans blanked Quepem Veterans 2-0 to cruise into the quarter-finals of All Goa Assolda Veterans football tournament organised by Assolda Veterans at Borimol Sports Complex, Quepem on Sunday. Candolim Veterans led 1-0 at half time.

Candolim Veterans dominated both the sessions and troubled the rival defence with well orchestrated raids. Persistent forays paid off the dividends and in the 10th minute Ceatano Xavier slotted past the rival goalkeeper with a snap shot. Stung by that setback, Quepem Veterans tried their best to come back into the match and created a couple of forays into the rival territory but failed to get past the rival rearguard. At the other end, Candolim Veterans had a couple of scoring opportunities but their forwards failed to get past the rival backline.

Crossing over, Candolim Veterans continued to dictate terms and fired a couple of pot shots but either, it went wide or straight into the hands of the Quepem Veterans goalkeeper. After a couple of misses, Candolim Veterans sealed the rivals' fate late in the second half when Romano Pereira bulged the net. Stung by the double blows, Quepem Veterans went all out but it yielded no goal. There will no match at the venue on Monday.
