The Chandor village Panchayat on Wednesday issued a stop work notice to the real estate developer who has proposed to build 28 bungalows at Fatramol, even as activists from Chandor and Salcete called for protection of the heritage village from mega housing projects.
The stop work notice came on a day when the joint inspection of the property in question could not take place after officials of the Town and Country Planning and the Land Survey played truant. It has now been decided to hold the joint inspection on June 27.
In the meanwhile, Chandor Sarpanch Estefan Dias informed that the panchayat on Wednesday issued a stop work notice on the real estate development to stop all work at the site till June 27 when the joint inspection is scheduled to take place.
The Sarpanch informed that the Panchayat has issued the stop work notice on the real estate developer to stop work at the site will June 27 when the joint inspection will take place.
He said the joint inspection could not take place on Wednesday for want of officials of the TCP and the land survey. The Sarpanch pointed out that the Panchayat has issued the stop work notice on the real estate development based on the complaint filed by the villagers against the project last week
Meanwhile, activists from Salcete turned up at Chandor on Wednesday to express their solidarity with the villagers of Chandor opposing the mega housing project.
Activist Freddy Travasso questioned how come the government authorities cleared the housing project when Chandor is notified as a heritage village.
“Heritage not only means the old and ancestral houses in Chandor, but it means the history as well as the people and the village as a whole. The bungalows proposed to be built in Chandor will change the demography of the heritage village. Will Chandor take pride of its heritage if the housing projects change the very demography of the historic village”, Freddy asked, even as he wondered whether the local villagers will be in a position to purchase the bungalows.
Social activist Abjijit Prabhudesai and others also descended at Chandor in view of the scheduled inspection of the property in question.
