The officialdom in Goa's education sector witnessed a shake-up of sorts with top functionaries of two key institutions changed -- Registrar of Goa University Dr Y V Reddy and Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE) Secretary, Baghirath Shetye.
Dr Reddy who put in his papers on health grounds recently has been replaced with Dr Radhika Nayak, on an officiating basis.
Shetye on the other hand has been promoted and posted as Deputy Director (Academics) in the Education Department. He has been directed to take charge with "immediate effect" but no replacement to fill his shoes in the crucial GBS&HSE Secretary's position has been named yet.
Two other education officials were also promoted to the 'deputy director' position on a regular basis - Sylvia Fernandes and Dr Shambu S Ghadi.
Fernandes who hitherto served as Assistant Director in Goa Samagra Shiksha has been posted as Deputy Director of Adult Education. Dr Ghadi has been posted as Deputy Director, Vocational Education.
Dr Radhika Nayak, who is currently co-ordinator of College Development Council, will hold additional charge of Registrar of Goa University until further orders and the post is filled on full-time tenure basis.
The changes at the top come at a time when the government is grappling with the decision to recommence academic work in the formal education sector amid the grim Covid-19 situation in the State.
