The PWD managed to repair and plug a major pipeline which burst on Wednesday morning in Colvale,

thereby avoiding a major drinking water crisis in Bardez.

A main 1,000 mm water pipeline was damaged while executing the NH-66 expansion work near Binani in Colvale.

A senior PWD official informed that a JCB operator belonging to MVR Infra Pvt Ltd contracted for the national highway road expansion work broke the pipeline while carrying digging work in the area.

Initially, the PWD was expecting that the repair work would take some time and immediately issued a public notice stating that there will be restricted water supply to entire Bardez taluka on September 17.

Executive Engineer, PWD (water), Nitin Neurekar had informed 'The Goan' that the restoration work of the pipeline would take time and supply to entire Bardez would be affected for a couple of days.

Later in the evening at around 5 pm, the executive engineer informed that the pipeline was repaired and water has also been released but it would take another five to six hours to fill the pipeline with water.

“We worked on a war-footing to repair the pipeline and restore supply. People of Bardez will get water supply on a regular basis,” Neurekar said.

It may be recalled in a similar incident, a PWD water pipeline was damaged twice at the Carrasvaddo junction while carrying out NH expansion work in the past.

Several areas in Bardez had to go without water then as PWD officials took time to repair the pipeline.
