A day after the Ro-Ro ferry services were launched, the ferry wharfs and the roads leading to them, both in Ribandar as well as Chorao, were scenes of utter chaos with huge traffic jams.
Harried office-goers on the very busy route complained that the authorities failed to put in place any protocols for order, as vehicles, particularly two-wheelers, blocked entry to other vehicles.
River Navigation Minister Subhash Phal Dessai, meanwhile, called it the initial “teething problems”.
He, however, said that the situation will stabilise and police personnel will be deployed to manage the traffic.
“Police force will be deployed to manage the congestion. Two-wheeler riders tend to crowd around the ramp, making it difficult for other vehicles to move in or out from the Ro-Ro ferry,” Phal Dessai said.
The minister also said that the conventional ferries are also on standby and will be deployed if necessary to ease the traffic during the peak hours.
