PANAJI: The Goa Police's Crime Branch has concluded its investigations and is expected to file the charge-sheet in this week in case of the mix-up in corpses at GMC mortuary leading to the disappearance of the body of 24-year-old Aldona footballer Januz Pavel Gonsalves.
Crime Branch sources said the charge-sheet will be filed against former Head of Forensic Department, Dr Edmundo Rodrigues and suspended Forensic Technical Assistant Machindranath Jalmi.
A third staffer, Post Mortem attendant Prakash Narvekar will not be listed in the accused columns of the charge-sheet as investigations revealed that he was not directly responsible for the goof-up.
The incident came to light after the family turned up at the morgue on September 29 to claim the mortal remains of Januz for the final rites and were shocked to learn that the body was missing.
It was later discovered that Januz' body was cremated by the Corporation of City of Panaji officials instead of the unclaimed corpse of a 45-year-old Vishant Naik.
Agassaim Police had then registered an FIR against Dr Edmundo Rodrigues, Machindranath Jalmi and Prakash Narvekar following a complaint by the family.
Following a public uproar, the case was handed over to the Crime Branch by Director General of Police Muktesh Chander on October 1.
Goa Medical College administration has already terminated the extension of service of Dr Edmundo Rodrigues in October.
