The body of a woman was found burnt beyond recognition in Siolim on Friday morning, Anjuna Police said.

Police were yet to establish the identity of the woman till late in the evening.
The completely charred body was first noticed in an open space across the main Siolim-Marna road at Chavdi ground, Bamon-vaddo, close to the old pre-primary SFX School by some villagers, who informed the police.
“The body has been burnt completely and it is hard to be identified. The woman, who seemed to be in her early 20s, was apparently dragged to the spot before being set ablaze,” said Anjuna PI Sanjay Dalvi.
Police have found a gold chain around the woman’s neck, a metallic bangle on the right hand and a finger ring on left hand ring finger.
“It is difficult to establish whether the deceased is an Indian or a foreigner but our priority is to first identify the deceased,” Dalvi said.
All the police stations in the State have been asked to check details about missing persons, he added.
Police suspect that the woman could have been murdered and then brought to the spot to get rid of the body. The incident may have taken place early in the morning between 2 am to 4 am, police said.
Police also do not rule out sexual assault, as the groin and the lower part of the body were mostly destroyed compared to the torso.
“Since gold chain was found intact on the body of the deceased, robbery does not appear to be the motive of the crime,” Anjuna PI told The Goan.
Police tried to corroborate details of missing persons reported at the Vasco and Margao Police stations with details of the deceased, but they did not match.
