CANACONA
If consumers have the same lights, fans and other electrical gadgets and yet receive a higher power bill, Power Minister Nilesh Cabral has suggested that they check the proper functioning of their earthing system.
Cabral was responding to a request by Canacona Municipal Council Chairperson Simon Rebello to resolve the problem of high electricity bills being received by the people while speaking at a private function at Canacona in the presence of Canacona MLA Isidore Fernandes.
“I don't know why people receive high bills and there must be some other reason since the government has not increased the rate of power units for the last 4-5 years.”
“Some people complain of exorbitant bills even though they continue to use the same bulbs, tube lights and other electrical gadgets. Maybe, some people having electric bikes have their electricity bills hiked, but it's a case to find how more units are consumed now with the same set-up.”
“Since some faulty gadgets having earthing issues could be one of the reasons, it is essential consumers check out for proper earthing and re-do the same if found faulty or inadequate,” suggested Cabral.
Fernandes requested Cabral to provide the electricity supply link stronger and more reliable at Karmalghat, as it frequently snaps and leaves the entire Canacona taluka in darkness.
Scheme for max Rs 6 lakh subsidy on electrical vehicles soon: Cabral
CANACONA:
Stating that the State government is setting up about 50 Electric Charging Stations in the State by December, Power Minister Nilesh Cabral said the government will soon finalise a scheme to offer a subsidy of up to Rs 6 lakh on the purchase of Electrical Vehicles.
Cabral was speaking during the launch of a new variant of an electric bike and the inauguration of an Electric Bikes Showroom at Gulem-Canacona.
“The scheme under the ‘Goa Electric Mobility Promotion Policy, 2021’ is still in draft mode, whereby the government will not only offer subsidy but also set up 50 Charging Stations all over the State. We already have about 4-5 Electrical Vehicles running on Goan roads.’
“The future of transportation is electrical vehicles for a healthy and sustainable environment. One condition for grant of subsidy could include people buying electrical vehicles should not own other fuel vehicles, but everything will be clear once the policy is out,” said Cabral.
According to Cabral, the clean mobility programme will be applicable to the first 10,000 electric two-wheelers sold in the State, which will reduce 5,000 tons of CO2 emissions every year and remove 10% of the polluting vehicles off Goa’s roads.
