PORVORIM
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Monday said the Goa Housing Board (GHB) is moving towards self-reliance and will generate revenue of Rs 100 crore by the year-end.
He was speaking after inaugurating the new market complex and Jogger’s park cum playground of Goa Housing Board at Porvorim in the presence of Minister for Housing Mauvin Godinho, GHB Chairman and MLA Subhash Shirodkar, Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte, Penha da Franca panchayat members and GHB Managing Director Nikhil Dessai.
“Every corporation should become self-reliant by increasing their economic activities. The GHB should endeavour to provide houses and flats of good quality to people at affordable rates. It is heartening to note that GHB is moving in this direction and will generate revenue of Rs 100 crore by the year-end,” said Sawant.
The chief minister said the government incurs a cost of Rs 15 per cubic meter to treat and supply water to consumers but charges only Rs 2.15 paise per cubic meter to consumers.
“The State government will supply 16,000 litres of water every month to each family from September 1 onwards and consumers should make judicious use of this water,” said Sawant.
Commenting on development projects in Porvorim, Sawant said the fire station and water treatment are nearing completion and would be inaugurated during this month.
GHB Chairman Subhash Shirodkar said the GHB will generate revenue to the extent of Rs 100 crore by December end.
“The GHB has adopted the procedure of e-auctioning and has sold flats and plots through e-auction. Goans who have completed 30 years in Goa would be given preference while auctioning the flats and plot.”
He informed that the process to auction shops and offices in the new market would be completed by September 30.
Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte said Porvorim has become an undeclared capital of Goa due to a rise in commercial activities and shifting of major government offices to Porvorim.
“As a result, water requirement in Porvorim has increased immensely but Porvorim continues to get only 13 MLD of water which is not sufficient at all.”
“On commissioning of the water treatment plant at Porvorim, the government should think of supplying water from this plant to neighbouring constituencies only after fulfilling the needs of residents of Porvorim.”
“The old market is on the verge of collapse and GHB should finalise allocation of shops quickly and shift the shops in the old market to the new market complex,” Khaunte added.
The Market complex at Porvorim consists of two buildings with a ground floor plus two floors with a built-up area of 9,824.19 sq mtrs and built at Rs 22 crore.
The Building A consists of a restaurant with a kitchen and open terrace having area of 1,125.34 sq mts, 73 shops to accommodate tenants of the old market and 24 offices. Building B consists of stilt parking, upper ground floor, first floor and second floor with 21 offices with ample additional uncovered parking area.
