Shameful some chose to oppose navy from hoisting flag: Minister

VASCO

Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godinho on Sunday said the controversy over hoisting of flag at St Jacinto Island may have ended peacefully but it was shameful that some people chose to oppose the navy from hoisting the national flag at the island.

Godinho was speaking to reporters after flagging off a cycle rally from Dabolim.

"Some may give umpteen number of excuses but no excuse is good enough to prevent an organisation like navy from merely hoisting a flag. It is shameful and exposes the mindset of a few leaders who were involved and these are the people who spread venom in the society,” said Godinho.

“These are the people who spread poison among people by dividing them on communal and religious lines and then point fingers at the BJP.

Godinho said a large number of youngsters had participated in the cycle rally indicating the strength of youth in the Dabolim constituency.

"All our units are fully charged and geared up. BJP has the backing of people because of the development at the State and Centre leading to several reforms,” said Godinho.
