Speaking to The Goan, Fernandes said, “Chellakumar was as much part of the game and failed team as was Digvijaya Singh. Then why is he given the charge of the Goa desk while Digvijaya was asked to step down? This was an unpleasant action of the party high command.”
Fernandes alleged that there are several criminal cases of grabbing government land, which are pending against Dr Chellakumar.
The senior Congressman also trained guns at AICC president Sonia Gandhi and demanded to know why she has failed to convene a session of the AICC since the party’s debacle in Lok Sabha polls in 2014.
“She is ill and she shouldn’t make the Congress sick. She should make way for Rahul Gandhi and allow him to revive the party. She cannot brush everything under the carpet,” Fernandes stated.
GPCC, however, brushed aside Fernandes’s sharp words. “Fernandes’ statement is his personal opinion and such loose comments are not binding on the Goa Congress nor on the Congress high command. His comments will be reviewed at the executive committee meeting of the party. He is not a practicing doctor to certify the health status of Soniaji,” GPCC general secy Sunil Kawthankar stated.
