CANACONA

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai will inaugurate the silver jubilee edition of the three-day Lokosthav-25 at Amone“Poinguinim in Canacona on January 9.

Tribal Welfare Minister Ramesh Tawadkar announced this at a news conference attended by Adarsh Yuwa Sangh president Chandrakant Velip and other organising committee members. The festival is being organised by Adarsh Yuwa Sangh and Balram Education Society in association with the Art and Culture Department and the Tribal Welfare Department.

Tawadkar said the objective of Lokosthav is to showcase rural and traditional cultures and practices of Goa to people across the State and the country. He added that the silver jubilee edition will include several new features, including the setting up of traditional households such as Kumbhar and Carpenter houses at Adarsh Gram for display at future festivals.

As part of the Adivasi Khel Mohatsav, a road race will be organised from Amone (Adarsh Gram) to Khotigao“Gaondongrim and back. Other traditional sports, including kabaddi, volleyball, kho-kho, Vitti-Dandu, Negoreo, Milamni and tug-of-war, will be held at the State level.

The festival will also feature a Khadi Bazaar, traditional medicines, handicrafts, adventure activities and cultural performances on all three days. Around 35 noted personalities from within Goa and other States will be felicitated for their achievements.

PANAJIThe Goa government will flag off the first pilgrim trip under the Mukhyamantri Dev Darshan Scheme on January 9.
