Not many may want to part with their premium vehicles, but Chicalim Deputy Sarpanch Kamla Prasad Yadav on Monday offered his Nissan Terrano SUV to the Chicalim Sub District Hospital for use as an ambulance and other logistical support.
That’s not all. Yadav has also decided to pay for the fuel and has also appointed a driver for the vehicle to be used by Chicalim SDH.
Incidentally, Yadav himself transported a few Covid patients to the hospital in the vehicle on Monday, setting an example for politicians by leading from the front to help people during the pandemic.
Yadav handed over the SUV vehicle to the Chicalim SDH Health Officer and Medical Superintendent Dr Anil Umraskar in the presence of Dy Collector Sachin Desai.
Dy Collector Sachin Desai told reporters said people in the taluka had come forward and help the state administration during this crucial time.
“We appreciate their gesture and some people have offered their own vehicles and bearing the cost of fuel as well, while some have even appointed drivers.’
“This is very helpful to us because sometimes there is a shortage of ambulances and if one ambulance leaves with a patient, we have another emergency coming up. Such vehicles come of great help at that time for shifting patients. We will have all these vehicles stationed at Chicalim SDH so as to use it as and when required," said Desai.
Lauded such support from people, Dr Anil Umraskar said such vehicles would be of great help to shift patients and to be used for other logistical purposes.
Chicalim Dy Sarpanch Kamla Prasad Yadav said he had planned to give his own vehicle after Dy Collector Sachin Desai had urged the people to come forward and help the state administration.
"A lot of people are facing difficulties and I am always ready to help for a good cause. I have already been using this car to send people of my ward for vaccination and getting them back.”
“Later, people requested me if I can help transport some people to the Chicalim SDH for testing. Some even requested me if I could help shift Covid patients in need.”
“I then decided to offer my SUV to the Chicalim SDH as an ambulance so that it can be used for all purposes of testing, shifting patients, logistical use and as an ambulance.”
“I decided to have a dedicated driver and also bear the fuel cost. I had already shifted a few Covid patients to the hospital since the last few days and even today, I shifted patients to the hospitals," said Yadav.
