Vasco police on Saturday added a Section 304 IPC in the fatal road mishap involving an underaged car driver at Chicalim and also wrote to the Mapusa RTO to cancel the registration of the car involved in the accident for 12 months.
In addition, the police have also asked the RTO to add further penalties on minor driver to ensure that he is barred from obtaining a driving licence till he attains 25 years of age.
A 50-year-old woman rider from Chicalim was killed, while the pillion rider was seriously injured in a collision between a car and bike near St Jacinto Island on Friday afternoon.
Police sources said the car was being driven by a minor boy from Mapusa who did not have a driving licence.
Considering the gravity of the offence committed by the minor boy, Vasco PI Kapil Nayak told reporters that Vasco police has moved a letter to the Principal Magistrate, Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) at Apna Ghar in Merces and JMFC Vasco.
“We have written to the JJB and JMFC Vasco to intimate about addition of Section 304 IPC (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) to the crime.”
“We also moved a letter to Assistant Director of Transport at Mapusa with a request to take necessary action as per Section 199A sub section 4 &5 of MV Act against the owner of the car and minor driver, which will lead to cancellation of the registration of the vehicle used by the juvenile in commission of the offence for a period of 12 months as per Sub Section 4 and as per sub section 5. It will prevent the issuance of driving licence or learner’s licence to the juvenile until he attains age of 25yrs,” Nayak added.
