‘Safer School Safer India’ programme held at primary school level

He was speaking after interacting with the students of Our Lady of Succor Church Primary School at Socorro.
“The government has decided to start the programme at primary school level to create awareness among students and teach them about good and bad fire and do’s and don’ts of fire safety at home and in public places,” said Menon.
He said as a part of the programme, they have trained 96 primary school teachers from Bardez, Ponda and Quepem talukas this year.
He said these teachers in turn through audio-visual tool (CDs) will explain to school students about safety at school, safety at home and safety at public places. This programme is conducted by them in association with the Directorate of Education (SCERT) and M/s Underwriters Laboratories (UL) India.
“The programme will help raise the level of safety consciousness among school students in particular and general public, ensuring increased prevention and preparedness to minimize loss of life and property in the State from fire and non-fire emergencies,” said Menon.
R A Venkitachalam, vice president “ Public Safety Mission, Underwriters Laboratories Inc, said safety of children is of paramount importance and children can play a critical role in ensuring public safety by being aware and being alert.
Earlier, teacher Maria Coelho though audio-video tool explained to the students the causes of fire and precautions to be taken to avoid fire incidents.
Assistant Divisional officer Ajit Kamat, Mapusa fire station officer Bosco Ferrao, Station Fire officer Sripad Gawas, Zoe Sovccie, Girija Venkitachallan and Fr Santana Carvalho were present for
the programme.
