Chimbel-based social activist Ana Gracias has been in the forefront in helping Covid affected persons right from the start of the pandemic, a work she continues even today.
From taking patients for testing to getting them admitted in hospital, Gracias has done her bit in alleviating the suffering of people, particularly those who are alone and do not have anyone to care for them.
Speaking to The Goan, Gracias informed that she is doing the social work so that she could be of some help to needy people, mostly the senior citizens living alone in their homes.
“During the first wave, I had an ambulance at my disposal which helped me a lot in transporting patients for Covid testing as well as getting them admitted in hospital. At the moment, I have to rely on the ambulance services provided by others to do the same work,” she added.
“During the past several days itself, I helped shift four patients to the GMC hospital. For that, I took the help of local MLA Tony Fernandes thrice and once from social worker Rama Kankonkar, who provided ambulances,” Gracias added.Apart from that, Gracias also helps in delivering Covid kits to those families who have difficulty in getting them from the health centre.
“When such families call up the health centre, they inform me and I deliver the kit,” said Gracias, while stating that she even helps in monitoring the oxygen levels of Covid patients who are in home isolation. Meanwhile, Gracias also distributes ration and medical kits to needy people in Chimbel, which is donated by Don Bosco Fathers from Odxel.
