Chimbel forms biodiversity panel

OLD GOA: The biodiversity management committee (BMC) of Chimbel was constituted on Sunday with Govind Shirodkar being appointed as its chairman.

Astha Shirodkar, Ana Gracias (women members), Gurudas Shirodkar (ST member), John Lobo and Sanjay Shirodkar (members) along with panchayat secretary Ashish Naik were also named on the committee.

Earlier, Reshma Kerkar, a member of Goa State Biodiversity Board, explained to the villagers the purpose and functions of the committee.

Kerkar also stated that a startup fund of Rs 60,000 would be allotted to the committee once it is inaugurated. “Additional Rs 1 lakh would be allotted for preparing the people’s biodiversity register,” she added.
