2 booked in criketer's assault case
PANAJI: After registering a non-cognizable offence while citing minor injuries initially in the alleged assault on local cricketer Gajanan Azgaonkar, Panaji Police on Saturday booked two residents of Vodlembhat-Taleigao, Sanesh Haldankar and Rakesh Rajesh GT, for wrongful restraint, intentional insult and voluntarily causing hurt.
The two accused with the common intention allegedly restrained the complainant while he was proceeding towards the Taleigao market from his residence on his two-wheeler on November 3, at around 5 pm. They then abused him with filthy words and assaulted him with slaps and kicks over previous enmity.
The assault was recorded by the accused on a mobile phone and that the video was circulated over social networking sites.
The one-and-half-minute video, shot under a tree besides a road, shows Haldankar assaulting Azgaonkar. During the assault, the accused makes reference to his own brother Pravin.
It appears that the assault resulted from comments passed by Azgaonkar after Haldankar's brother bought a new vehicle.
Though the video shows one person assaulting the complainant, one person witnessing the assault and one person recording the incident, only two persons have been booked.
Azgaonkar has filed a separate complainant about the video with the cyber crime police.
