OLD GOA
Chimbel locals forced the adjournment of the gram sabha on Sunday due to inaction on a previous gram sabha resolution.
When the minutes of the previous meeting were read out, the villagers sought information regarding the actions taken on the resolution to revoke the provisional license for a project near a Hindu crematorium.
However, the panchayat authorities informed that the developer had submitted a revised plan, which led them to decide not to revoke the provisional license.
Nonetheless, the villagers contended that the panchayat should have acted in accordance with the resolution approved by the villagers.
“We had resolved that regardless of the developer’s response, the panchayat should revoke the license. It appears that the panchayat has disregarded the resolution,” a villager explained.
After a lengthy discussion on the issue, it was decided to adjourn the gram sabha since the villagers were resolute in their stance that they would not permit the meeting to proceed until the panchayat adhered to the resolution passed in the previous gram sabha.
