The Info Tech Corporation of Goa (ITG) has informed in a reply to a right-to-information (RTI) application that the conceptual master plan of the upcoming IT Park at Chimbel is awaiting Town and Country Planning Department's approval.
When asked about the status of Chimbel IT Park, ITCG noted in its reply, "The conceptual master plan for the upcoming IT Park in Chimbel has been prepared and approved by the Empowered Committee. The same has been submitted by the IT Department to Dy Town Planner, Tiswadi, on November 13, 2017 for seeking technical clearance / sub division of plots for area admeasuring 65,212 square meters. The approval from Town and Country Planning Dept is awaited."
Along with the upcoming electronics city at Tuem, the IT Park in Chimbel is the other ambitious project of the state government. This park is aimed at attracting IT companies from India and around the world to invest in the state.
When it comes to IT sector, Goa has been lagging behind states like Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra. As a result of which, every year, a significant number of engineers have to leave Goa to other states in search of employment. The upcoming IT Park at Chimbel is expected to reverse this brain drain.
ITG further informed that it is in the process of finalising the land allotment regulations and building regulations with the consultant, M/s JLL for this park. Once TCP approves the IT Park's master plan and land allotment and building regulations are finalised, it is expected that the government will be able to allot plots to companies keen to set up shop in Goa.
Meanwhile, ITG also mentioned in the RTI reply that no infrastructural work has been started till date for the IT Park at Chimbel.
