As the tender for the Chimbel junction flyover has been awarded to M/s Sitaram Infraprojects Pvt Ltd, St Cruz MLA Rudolf Fernandes along with officials of various departments held an inspection at the junction to moot traffic plan when the flyover work begins.
Among the officials present were from the PWD State Highways, Traffic, Chimbel panchayat and representatives of the contractor.
However, no concrete proposal was worked out on the traffic movement when the work starts with a decision being taken that a traffic management plan be prepared first.
“It has been decided that a traffic management plan should be submitted by the contractor, which then would be discussed by all authorities concerned before its implementation,” Traffic Police PI Brandon D’Souza informed reporters.
Meanwhile, MLA Fernandes suggested that another traffic signal be installed just before the steep downward slope commences to slow down the speed of the vehicles.
“It is important that the speed of the vehicles approaching the Chimbel junction is slowed down and hence I have suggested that a traffic signal be installed just before the steep downward slope begins,” Fernandes stated but added that the final decision will be taken by the authorities concerned.
Meanwhile, the representative of the contractor informed that work on one flyover would be completed in a year while the entire project would be completed in two years.
“Very soon we are going to begin the work on the service road which should take two months to complete,” the representative said.
Chimbel sarpanch Sandesh Shirodkar, panchas Pravin Chopdencar and Sandesh Chopdekar, and others were present for the inspection.
