The Chimbel panchayat authorities postponed the gram sabha that was scheduled to be held on Sunday (today) due to the festival of Raksha Bandhan.
The decision was arrived at the eleventh hour and announcement to this effect was made in the village on a loudspeaker only on Saturday.
The villagers were prepared to corner the panchayat authorities on the issue as they had already passed a resolution that no gram sabha should be scheduled on days of festivals of any religion.
When contacted, sarpanch Chandrakant Kunkolkar confirmed the postponement of the gram sabha due to Raksha Bandhan.
“The gram sabha was scheduled by the BDO. But since the villagers had passed a resolution that gram sabhas should not be held on festival days, it was decided to postpone the same,” he added.
