Chimbel p’yat to utilise Liberation funds to renovate Panchayat Ghar

OLD GOA

The Chimbel panchayat has decided to renovate its Panchayat Ghar by using grants of Rs 50 lakh which the State government had announced to each panchayat in celebration of Goa’s 60 years of Liberation.

The panchayat authorities have also resolved to appoint an architect to prepare the design and valuation of the project.

“The resolution to this effect was adopted at the fortnightly meeting on Wednesday and in the coming days, the architect will be appointed to inspect the panchayat and prepare the plan accordingly,” informed Sarpanch Manisha Chopdekar.

However, the villagers have expressed disappointment for being kept in the dark about the project.

Speaking to The Goan, a local, Ajay Kholkar informed that since the fund has to be used for a public purpose, it is the duty of the panchayat to take the villagers into confidence before taking any decision.

“Panchayat authorities should take villagers into confidence and publicly discuss the plan before arriving at any decision,” Kholkar stated and demanded that a special meeting should be conducted in this regard.

However, the panchayat authorities pointed out that the proposal was discussed at the special gram sabha on August 15 and moreover, the proposal has to be sent to the government by September 30 to avail the grant.

Panchayat not to hold gram sabha till curfew is lifted

OLD GOA:

The Chimbel panchayat has decided not to hold the ordinary gram sabha meetings of the panchayat till the time that the government does not lift the Covid restriction in toto.

The decision was taken in view of the government extending the curfew till September 30.

“For the moment, Covid restrictions are still in place and the curfew has been extended till September 30,” said a panchayat authority, while adding that once restrictions are lifted, the ordinary gram sabhas will be conducted.

It may be recalled that The Goan had highlighted that the Chimbel manch had petitioned the Director of Panchayats, Tiswadi BDO and the Panchayats Minister to direct the Chimbel panchayat to hold the ordinary gram sabha.

The Tiswadi BDO had later forwarded the letter to the panchayat, asking it to take an appropriate decision in the matter.
