A resident of Indira Nagar-Chimbel Shivram Kadam was arrested by the Old Goa police on Saturday for committing theft of a trailer truck that was parked by the roadside at Corlim.
According to information available, the said truck was involved in an accident on September 5 wherein it rammed into a shed at Corlim causing a loss of Rs 4 lakh.
The Old Goa police attached the truck but since it was not in a driving condition, it was parked in an open space along the roadside and the truck driver told to take care of the vehicle till further court orders.
However, it was noticed that the truck had gone missing from the parked site upon which a State complaint was registered.
Upon, further investigations it came to light that the owner of the truck had sold the truck to the accused Kadam as scrap, without obtaining any permission from the court.
The Old Goa police arrested Kadam on charges of committing theft of the truck and he has been charged under sections 279, 336 and 427 of IPC.
The dismantled truck was also recovered by the police and further investigations are underway.
