PANAJI

Ambassador of Denmark Freddy Svane said that he would pursue the matter of resumption of chartered flights between his country and Goa soon, thus giving further boost to State tourism.

Svane was in Goa during which he met Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and also visited Goa legislative Assembly complex and had a meeting with Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar and State Water Resources Department minister Subhash Shirodkar.

Svane told media persons that the chartered flights connected Denmark and Goa before Covid-19 outbreak; however subsequent to the pandemic the same was stopped. “I see huge potential for tourism in Goa. I will go back and try to see whether we can bring Goa back on the track. We can see about recommencing the Charters between the two destinations,” he said.

Svane said that when Covid-19 hit the world, Denmark was working to get its citizen back in the country and then found that the majority of their citizens in India were in Goa.

The diplomat expressed confidence about working together in the field of energy, fishery, dairy and others. He said that Denmark would like to work with Goa as it is already working with other Indian states like Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Assam and Rajasthan.

Svane also visited the Basilica of Bom Jesus at Old, where the relics of St Francis Xavier are preserved.
