OLD GOA
In what is seen as an unusual record of sorts, Chimbel sarpanch Chandrakant Kunkolkar was ousted by 11-0 votes at a special meeting in the panchayat to decide on the no-confidence motion moved against the sarpanch by seven of the 11 panchas, on Tuesday.
The strange part was that the sarpanch Kunkolkar himself voted in favour of the no-confidence motion, as also the other three panchas who were not part of the original signatories to the motion.
It may be recalled that seven panchas of the panchayat including deputy sarpanch Manisha Chopdekar, panchas Mohan Narve, Sandesh Chopdekar, Vasanti Vernekar, Mohini Narve, Gitaksha Badam and Rosy Uttukiri had moved the no confidence motion against sarpanch Kunkolkar citing non cooperation.
The other three panchas namely Ajay Borkar, Pramila Kunkolkar and Laxman Adkonkar were not part of the no-trust motion.
However, on Tuesday, when the no trust motion was taken up all the panchas including the sarpanch raised their hands in support, thereby passing the motion by 11 votes to none.
When The Goan questioned on his unusual move to vote against himself, ousted sarpanch Kunkolkar said he raised his hand as he already had an understanding with the other panchas that he would vacate the chair, for which he has already tendered his resignation.
However, Kunkolkar could not answer why he had to vote in favour of the motion when he could have just abstained from voting.
Meanwhile, deputy sarpanch Manisha Chopdekar who presided over the motion informed that as per the understanding she would take over the post of the sarpanch, as and when the elections are held.
“Panch Rosy Uttukuri will takeover as the deputy sarpanch,” Chopdekar added.
The special meeting was held in the absence of any representative from Tiswadi BDO with panchayat secretary Rajendra Gawas recording the proceedings.
