Men and women, Priests and nuns, besides representatives of various social organizations, including tribal organizations, took out a silent march around the Margao Muncipal garden on Wednesday evening to pay homage to tribal rights activist Fr Stan Swamy.
Carrying placards and banners, the citizens went around the Municipal garden as they vowed to continue the struggle of Fr Stan Swamy.
Human rights activist Ranjan Soloman said the citizens have gathered to pay tributes to Fr Stan Swamy, not to morn his loss, but to carry forward his struggle.
“We have not come to mourn the loss of Fr Stan Swamy because we don’t believe that Fr Stan has gone. He is with us as he has inspired generations of people from all over the world, particularly in our country. We will take forward his struggle and his mission. For us, Fr Stan is alive and he is alive in our hearts”, Solomon said.
Tribal leader Rupesh Velip said all the organizations have come together to pay homage to Fr Stan, saying that Fr Stan had worked amongst the tribals to give them their rights.
Saying that the authorities had framed Fr Stan in the case, Velip demanded that the release of the persons arrested by the authorities in the Bhima Koregaon case.
