The stainless steel bus shelters dotting along the roadsides along the highways and state highway have come under the lens of citizens and local bodies as well.
For, locals have complained of lack of upkeep and maintenance of the bus shelters, fearing it could lead to untoward incidents.
In fact, the bus stop shelter near the St Sebastian Chapel road junction at Chinchinim has come under the scanner of the Chinchinim panchayat body. Reason. The panchayat has pointed out that a material of the bus shelter came crashing down and it was a sheer providence that no one was present at the shelter around the time.
Sarpanch Frank Viegas has drawn the attention of the authorities to the deteriorating condition of the bus stop of stainless steel which were erected on the roadside in the jurisdiction of the Village Panchayat Chinchinim-Deussua.
“The bus stop has become increasingly neglected, presenting a shabby appearance specially during this festive season that detracts from the overall aesthetic of our community. Additionally, the flex advertisements displayed at the bus stop are faded and torn, contributing further to the unkempt look. This not only affects the image of our village but also inconveniences commuters who rely on this bus stop for transportation”, the Sarpanch said.
He urged the concerned department to take immediate action to address these issues. “Regular maintenance of the bus stop, including cleaning and repairs, as well as the removal or replacement of the damaged advertisements, would greatly improve the experience for residents and visitors alike”, Frank added.
The Chinchinim Sarpanch has pointed out that hundreds of tourists use the Chinchinim road to head to Cabo de Rama and in Canacona taluka every day, adding that the bus shelter has turned into an eyesore for reasons best known to the concerned departments.
