Guess which department is responsible for streamlining traffic on the service roads at the newly commissioned Western bypass “ the PWD, National Highways, the PWD, roads division or the Traffic cell?
Well, officials of the PWD, National Highway in private say they have not only built the western bypass, but the service roads along the stretch as well.
On the other hand, officials of the PWD, roads say the PWD, NH has no doubt built the service roads, connecting the roads to the PWD roads, but admitted there’s lack of coordination between the two divisions to put the safety aspects in place.
Officials of the PWD, NH have claimed that the contractor has erected rumblers on the service roads near the underpasses at Benaulim, but no one is willing to come on record to state the reasons behind the spate of accidents reported on the service roads since the commissioning of the western bypass.
To tide over the confusion and suggest remedial measures, the police has suggested to the authorities to have a joint inspection of the accident prone spots near the underpasses and to take remedial measures. “The spate of accidents is certainly a cause for worry. A joint inspection of the accident prone zones at the underpasses on the service roads is the need of the hour. Hope the concerned officials understand the situation and hold the inspection on priority”, remarked a road transport official.
